Ask about your season
in a conversation you already know.

WhatsApp interactions bring Openfarms Lab into the chat you use every day. Write a question, send a photo, and get an answer with your crop and season in view. It is a separate way to connect, alongside the SmartFarmer app.

A conversation, step by step

What it looks like from your phone.

Press the button to reveal each message. The notices below use the same plain wording as the messages the platform sends.

  1. Confirm it is you A message names you and your cooperative. Reply YES and your number is linked, with your agreement recorded.
  2. Ask about your season Write a question or send a photo. The conversation belongs to one season, so the crop and dates stay in view.
  3. The AI answers, and says so Replies from the assistant begin “Openfarms AI assistant”, so you are never unsure who wrote them.
  4. Your cooperative can check first If your cooperative reviews answers, you are told it is checking. Once approved, the answer is sent here. After 24 hours without a message from you, a short notice asks you to reply so the answer can be delivered.
  5. A person can take over When a person at your cooperative answers instead, you are told that it is not the AI.
  6. Tell us how it went When a question is resolved you are asked how the answer was.

Example conversation with example names. The first message is illustrative wording; the notices follow the platform’s message wording.

Behind the chat

Context and care between your question and the answer.

A message is more than text. Before an answer is sent, the platform checks who you are and what you agreed to, brings in your season, and applies your organisation’s rules.

Your message is matched to your linked number and consent, given your season context, answered by the AI, checked against your organisation’s rules and then sent. A person can take over instead. What it covers

Made for the way farmers already talk.

Short, familiar messages, with clear control over what you receive.

Confirm by replying

No code to read out. Your cooperative registers your number and you confirm it with one word.

One season at a time

Each conversation belongs to a season, so answers follow the crop you are actually growing.

Photos in the chat

Send a picture of the plant or the field instead of describing it.

Review when it matters

Your cooperative decides which answers are checked by a person before they are sent.

A person when you need one

A question can be handed to a person at your cooperative, and you are told when it is.

Season notices

A short message can tell you when a crop’s growth stage is later than expected for the season.

Your choices

Messages you agreed to, and a way to stop them.

Openfarms Lab only messages you on WhatsApp after you have agreed. You can change your mind whenever you like.

  • Reply YES to start, or START to resume after you stopped.
  • Reply STOP and messages stop straight away.
  • Stopping messages is not the same as deleting your information. Our data rights page explains how to ask for that.

Your data rights

WhatsApp interactions are available through participating organisations, depending on the services they have enabled. We do not publish a phone number here: your cooperative or field agent will tell you how to begin. The assistant supports farm decisions and does not replace a qualified agronomist or extension worker.
