Use the service only with proper authority. Agricultural and AI outputs can be wrong and require judgement. Your organisation’s signed agreement governs its commercial service; optional data uses require their own choices.
Application of these terms
These terms describe the conditions on which Openfarms Lab provides access to its website, SmartFarmer farmer app, WhatsApp interactions and enabled business-facing services. Where acceptance is required, it must be recorded in the relevant registration or contracting process. Publication of these terms does not itself record an organisation’s acceptance or create a signed enterprise agreement.
An executed customer agreement or order form controls commercial scope, fees, service levels and negotiated obligations. If it conflicts with these general terms, that agreement controls for the covered service. Mandatory legal rights continue to apply. Contact hello@openfarmslab.com with questions.
Eligibility, accounts and authority
You must be at least 18 and have authority to use the relevant organisation and farm records. Keep contact details accurate, protect sign-in credentials and codes, and report suspected compromise. Do not share an account or impersonate another person. Organisation administrators are responsible for assigning appropriate access and removing access when it is no longer needed.
If you act for a farmer, explain the relevant service and notices, record accurate information and obtain the required authority. Do not claim land ownership, operating rights or another person’s agreement merely because you can enter a record.
Service scope and availability
Openfarms Lab supports agricultural records, communications and assistance through the features enabled for a deployment. Pilot, development and preview features may have limited availability and may change. Descriptions of planned products do not promise delivery dates or outcomes. Provider outages, connectivity, message delivery rules and maintenance can affect access.
Availability commitments, support hours, recovery objectives and service credits apply only when included in your agreement. No general website statement creates an enterprise service-level commitment.
Agricultural advice and AI limitations
Outputs may be generated by AI, may be incomplete or incorrect, and may not reflect your field conditions, product label, local law or the most recent evidence. A citation or confidence indication is not a guarantee. Where farm assistance is enabled, the default pilot policy holds recommendations for review. Eligible recommendations and general clarification replies may follow an automatic path under the applicable controls. Review staffing and response times depend on your organisation’s service arrangement; do not assume every response has been checked by a professional.
Use a qualified local agronomist or extension worker for consequential decisions. Confirm product registration, label directions, dosage, protective equipment, withholding periods and suitability before using an agricultural input. Do not rely solely on an automated response for chemical application, food safety or other high-risk action. The service does not guarantee yields, disease detection, profitability, market access or loss prevention.
The website chat provides company information; it is not a field diagnosis service. Ask your organisation for human assistance where a response is unclear or unsuitable.
Acceptable use
- Use records and communications only for lawful, authorised purposes.
- Do not upload unlawful material, malicious files or information you have no right to provide.
- Do not bypass permissions, probe other organisations’ records, scrape personal information or interfere with service security.
- Do not use messaging for spam, harassment, fraud or unauthorised marketing.
- Do not misrepresent AI output as a professional assessment or an official certification.
We may restrict access where reasonably necessary to address abuse, a security threat, legal requirements or a material breach. Where appropriate and lawful, we will explain the restriction and how to seek review.
Your information and intellectual property
You and the relevant rights holders retain rights in information and material you provide. You grant the permissions necessary for us and our service providers to host, process, transmit and present that material to provide the agreed service and follow lawful instructions. This does not transfer ownership of your farm records to Openfarms Lab or create rights over land.
AI improvement using eligible personal content is governed by the separate choices described in the Privacy Policy. Using the service does not itself grant blanket permission for model training. Openfarms Lab and its licensors retain rights in the software, website and service materials. AI outputs may not be unique or eligible for intellectual property protection.
Communications and third parties
WhatsApp and SMS depend on their providers and mobile networks. Consent to messages and service terms serve different purposes. You can stop WhatsApp messages as described in our Privacy Policy; that action does not delete platform records. Carrier or connectivity charges may apply under your own provider arrangements.
Third-party websites, publications and services have their own terms. Referencing them does not guarantee their accuracy or endorse every use.
Privacy and organisation responsibilities
Our Privacy Policy explains handling of personal information. Customer organisations must establish their lawful basis, give appropriate notices, maintain authorised access, handle people’s rights and agree the necessary processing arrangements with us. A sharing agreement alone does not grant access.
Commercial use involving personal information should address the matters described in Enterprise data processing. These public terms do not replace a data processing agreement.
Ending use and data requests
You may stop using the service and request assistance with account closure or records. An organisation may have separate contractual termination and export arrangements. Removing access, closing an account and deleting a person’s information are separate actions. Retention, shared records, legal holds and independent recipient obligations may affect what can be removed. See Data rights & deletion.
Responsibility and applicable law
To the extent permitted by law, the service is provided without a guarantee that every output is accurate or that access will be uninterrupted. Each party remains responsible for its own conduct and obligations. These terms do not exclude liability or consumer protections that cannot lawfully be excluded; any negotiated allocation of liability belongs in the applicable customer agreement.
These general terms are governed by Nigerian law, subject to mandatory protections and any valid governing-law provision in a signed agreement. Contact us first to seek resolution of a service concern. This does not restrict your right to approach a regulator or competent court.
Changes
Updated terms carry a new revision date. Where a material change requires notice or acceptance, we will use the applicable service or contracting process. Changes do not retrospectively authorise new uses of personal information or override an executed agreement.
